NFL players have to have a ton of self-confidence and for some, they take the confidence just a bit too far. San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo spent the beginning of his career behind one of the best quarterbacks to ever play this game.

It didn't stop from Garoppolo from having confidence in himself and at one point he convinced himself that he was “better than” Tom Brady.

“I knew that [Brady] was better than me in my first day in the NFL,” Garoppolo told Joon Lee of Bleacher Report. “Naturally, you’re the rookie and he’s the veteran, but you have to have that mindset, that you want to be the starter.

“Even when I was a little kid, my brothers, whenever we would play, I would literally always think I was going to win. I wouldn’t, but I would always think that. It’s like when I go to New England, when I first got there, I thought in my head, ‘I’m better than this dude.'”

Garoppolo was asked in the interview if he truly believed that he was the best quarterback on the Patriots and he said that he believes in himself.

It's hard to know if he really believed that or if he just put that in his mind to psych himself up, but as a competitive guy, it's hard to think he didn't truly believe it.

Garoppolo is now the face of his own team and he has the chance to show the world that he is better than Brady and to do that it will start with a good year in this upcoming season.
