There have been rumblings that Jimmy Garoppolo may not be the San Francisco 49ers' starting quarterback next season due to his fragile body and poor play this campaign.

However, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan fully expects Garoppolo to be back next season and under center as the team's starter.

“I expect Jimmy to be our starter next year,” Shanahan told reporters on Monday, via the San Francisco Chronicle.

After making it to the Super Bowl last season, it appears the 49ers are going to miss the playoffs this campaign. Both Jimmy Garoppolo and star tight end George Kittle are likely done for the season with injuries.

Garoppolo has thrown seven touchdowns and five interceptions this season for the 49ers. He was completing 67.1 percent of his passes before hurting his ankle again against the Seattle Seahawks.

Assuming Garoppolo doesn't play again in 2020, the 49ers will continue to start Nick Mullens at quarterback. The team is 4-6 on the season and in last place in the NFC West standings.

Along with his ankle woes, Garoppolo has also tore his ACL with the 49ers. The good news is that the gunslinger appears to have the support of his head coach and general manager, John Lynch.

However, words are one thing and actions speak louder. Until the 2021 season arrives and Garoppolo is the starter, we can't say for certain Jimmy G is safe in San Francisco.
