Jimmy Garoppolo is heading into his first season as a full-time starter for the San Francisco 49ers and with training camp just about to kick off he has had a lot of interesting stories come out.
Garoppolo took a porn star on a date and then a story came out about how he believed during his time with the New England Patriots that he was a better quarterback than Tom Brady. Garoppolo also had a really close relationship with Bill Belichick during his time with the Patriots and according to Jenny Vrentas of Sports Illustrated, they are still close today.
“Last December, following the trade, a sort of weekly ritual began: After each of Garoppolo's starts for the 49ers, he received a text from the coach who had traded him, congratulating him on another win.”
Garoppolo started five games last year for the 49ers and the team won every one of those games. The expectations are even higher this season after taking over a team that was struggling last year and finishing the season strong.
There were rumors swirling last year that Belichick didn't want to trade Garoppolo because he felt he could be the quarterback of the future. Time was running out on Garoppolo's contract and he made it clear that he wanted to be a start.
The Patriots weren't going to bench Brady for him, so the choice was made for them, they had to let him go. The 49ers ended up sending back a second round pick to the Patriots to squire Garoppolo.
