The San Francisco 49ers have high hopes that their gamble on quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo would pay off as soon as the 2018 NFL season. It remains to be seen for the 49ers whether Garoppolo is truly the godsend signal-caller for the team, but they should like the effort that he’s putting in this offseason.

Garoppolo has developed a habit of staying on the field beyond normal practice schedule – something that speaks volumes about how excited the East Illinois product is with finally having a team in which he has the keys to the offense unlike before when he was just an insurance policy for Tom Brady in New England.

Having said that, Garoppolo is careful not to overtax his body, per Matt Barrows of The Athletic.

“Yeah, I like to,” he said. “It’s kind of what separates you, I guess. Everyone’s putting in the same amount of practice time, but whoever stays after, you’re getting a little extra work in. There’s a fine line during camp. You don’t want to kill guys and they run a lot more than I do, so we’ve got to take care of their legs a little bit.”

San Francisco rivaled the Cleveland Browns last season when it comes to eating losses until the 49ers decided to hand the starting duties to Garoppolo in Week 13. Since then, the team won all of its five remaining regular season games, which includes victories over playoff teams Jacksonville Jaguars and the Los Angeles Rams in Weeks 16 and 17, respectively, to finish with an above .500 6-10 record.

Hopefully for Garoppolo and San Francisco, the good times keep rolling for the team next season.
