Star quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo made up for his terrible start on Sunday night, leading the San Francisco 49ers to a gutsy 34-26 trouncing of the Minnesota Vikings.

Garoppolo had a lackadaisical showing in the first half, with the 49ers offense looking lost. But he bounced back in the third quarter with crucial throws that would eventually seal the squad's third straight victory. The 49ers only needed 22 seconds at the start of the third frame to score twice.

After the game, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan admitted he was less than pleased with Garoppolo's performance, but he acknowledged the valiant effort of the veteran signal-caller, citing his passes to wide receiver Trent Sherfield and fullback Kyle Juszczyk (via 49ers reporter Jake Hutchinson).

“Feel like he started off not great, took him a couple to get into it. The pick was inexcusable, he knows that. But the way he bounced back was great. Thought he made some huge throws.”

Garoppolo finished with 230 yards and a touchdown, which were enough to ward off the Vikings and stay in the hunt for at least a wild card ticket. The win could be costly though, as top wide receiver Deebo Samuel exited the game due to a groin injury. It remains unclear if he will miss an extended period.

If he does, the 49ers will have to recalibrate as they look to notch their fourth straight win when they visit the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
