Jimmy Garoppolo has established himself as one of the premier quarterbacks in the league, even though he hasn’t played too much. After tearing his ACL last year, the 49ers star quarterback is preparing to come back this season, and looking to build chemistry with teammates he didn’t get the chance to all of last year.

One of those players, Dante Pettis, will be a key piece for the 49ers moving forward, and Garoppolo knows that building a relationship with him will only help the team.

Speaking to the media as the team begins to ramp up its offseason activities, Garoppolo noted how mature Pettis has gotten, and how different of a receiver he is to that of Marquise Goodwin.

“Where Marquise looks like he’s running really fast, and he is running really fast, where with Dante it’s different,” Garoppolo said via NBC Sports. “Being able to get on the same page with him, I think these last few weeks have been very important.

A difference in speed like that is subtle to notice, but something that Garoppolo has had to become familiar with as they build chemistry.

“It’s just different. It’s hard to describe unless you’re seeing it, but you’re trying to throw it while he’s coming out of a break, but he comes out of break differently than most guys. It’s so hard on the defense that you really just know he’s going to get open, you just don’t want to miss him.”

According to many of the coaches at 49ers minicamp, Pettis has already begun turning heads without even putting pads on.

He’s seemingly shown up much more comfortable in the 49ers offense, and looks ready to build on his year of experience by becoming a key piece in turning the 49ers back into a Super Bowl contending team.
