There was plenty of buzz surrounding San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo going into the 2018 NFL season. Unfortunately, their hopes were dashed in Week 3 when he suffered a torn ACL.

Garoppolo has since spent the better part of the last year working to get back on the field. According to Matt Maiocco NBCSportsBayArea.com, he admits he is taking things one day at a time:

“It’s very good to be throwing again,” Garoppolo said. “It’s what I do. It’s encouraging. Every day gets easier and easier, able to make this throw better than I was a week ago. It’s small victories like that. Throughout this whole process, it’s all about small victories.”

This is certainly an encouraging update from Garoppolo. It is no secret that the 49ers have made quite the investment in making him their franchise quarterback. They had hoped to finally cash in last year in his first season as a starter, however, things ended just as quickly as they started with the injury. The front office will likely take a cautious approach with his recovery moving forward.

Regardless, it is safe to assume that the expectations are still rather high in San Francisco. Despite their injuries, they still managed to remain somewhat competitive during stretches of the season. George Kittle broke the NFL record for receiving yards by a tight end despite a rib injury and multiple backup quarterbacks under center throwing to him. There is no question that the 49ers are hoping they can potentially develop into one of the best passing duos in the league.
