It is no secret that the San Francisco 49ers endured a rough 2018 NFL season due to injuries. Two of their more notable losses were quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and running back Jerick McKinnon.

Both players had their seasons cut short with ACL injuries. However, it appears they have made some tremendous strides in their respective recoveries since then. General manager John Lynch said during an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio that he recently saw the two throwing together:

“One of the best sights, the other day, I looked outside my office and he was throwing and throwing to Jerick McKinnon,” Lynch said.

This is certainly an encouraging update for San Francisco. There was plenty of hype surrounding the state of the offense going into the season. Unfortunately, it was never able to come to fruition due to their injuries. On the bright side, it seems they are well on their way to getting back on the field for offseason workouts.

There is no question about Garoppolo's status as the starter moving forward. The 49ers managed to scrap together some impressive showings on offense; however, it rarely proved to be more than enough to win games. The 49ers are optimistic that Garoppolo's return will be the difference in many of these close games.

Although Garoppolo will not have a tough time getting snaps, the same cannot be said for McKinnon. He arrived last offseason with the hope of becoming a potential workhorse back. Not only was he unable to prove that he was capable of handling a heavy load, but his injury also made way for running backs such as Matt Breida and Raheem Mostert to show their promise as well.
