Following an impressive finish to the 2017 season, there is a tremendous amount of buzz around quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo that he can take the San Francisco 49ers to the next level. This had even led to the team showing a huge amount of confidence in his ability on the field after inking him to five-year, $137.5 million deal.

However, it hasn't been all smooth for Garoppolo so far in the offseason workout as he has notably struggled to throw the ball over the last few weeks. It' is something that has become quite a glaring issue in 49ers' mandatory minicamp, according to Grant Cohn of The Press Democrat.

Now, he knows the playbook, and has experience with his current teammates. Most people expect he will play even better next season, and he may. But right now, he’s struggling.

On Wednesday, the second and final day of the 49ers’ mandatory minicamp, Garoppolo played well early, completing three of his first four passes. Then, he fell apart, and missed 11 of his final 16 throws. His completion percentage for the afternoon was a mere 40. He missed every deep pass he threw.

On Tuesday, the day before, Garoppolo couldn’t even yell the snap count correctly. He caused the offense to commit four false-start penalties in a row to start practice.

The fact that he has struggled has caught attention given the amount of hype around him over the last several months, but it is still quite early in the process. He is likely working through some adjustments to the offensive game plan that has seen him go throw a rough stretch throwing the ball.

Garoppollo has already shown on the field that he can be a game-changing talent with the ability to lead the team not only with his arm but also with his voice and presence. This is something that became quite evident in his short amount of starts this past season, which was compounded by the team finishing 5-0 in each of those games.

It is still quite early in the process that gives Garoppolo plenty of time for him to work through these throwing problems that may this no longer be an issue when the 49ers come back for training camp next month.
