The San Francisco 49ers had good reason to kickstart negotiations on a new contract extension for general manager John Lynch this offseason. Although it may have taken longer than initially planned, it appears a deal has now come to fruition.

The restrictions placed in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic have offered up its own set of challenges for teams trying to negotiate with personnel. According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the 49ers have agreed to a five-year extension with Lynch:

The 49ers have agreed to terms on a multi-year contract extension with GM John Lynch, sources say. They’re buttoning up the language on the deal, which is expected to span five years in all. An outside-the-box hire, Lynch is on to his second contract.

ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter added that the deal will keep him through the 2024 NFL season:

49ers and GM John Lynch reached agreement on a new five-year contract that ties him to San Francisco through the 2024 season, league sources tell ESPN.

The 49ers wasted no time in signing head coach Kyle Shanahan that will keep him with the team through the 2025 NFL season. Since there are still three years remaining on Lynch's initial six-year contract, the franchise has doubled down on this pairing that has helped lead quite a resurgence in recent years that culminated with a Super Bowl run last season.

Expectations remain as high as ever for San Francisco heading into the 2020 NFL season. The stability in their leadership and the crop of talent that they have assembled should help make sure it stays that way for years to come.
