San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch is open to trading back the No. 2 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

This was what Lynch told The Mercury News 49ers reporter Cam Inman on April 22.

Lynch also told The Mercury News on Monday the 49ers aren't discounting the possibility of snagging Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Kyler Murray. Many draft boards predict Murray will go No. 1 overall to the Arizona Cardinals. However, if the Cardinals pass up on him for some reason, the 49ers will take a long, hard look at Murray.

NFL experts also predict the 49ers will select Ohio State Buckeyes pass rusher Nick Bosa with the second overall pick. Lynch chose his words carefully when he spoke with Inman. Instead of talking about Bosa exclusively, he included other top-notch defensive specialists in the conversation.

Nick is a heck of a player. He's one we really enjoyed studying throughout this process. Same goes for Quinnen Williams, Josh Allen, (Montez) Sweat, and I could go on and on.

It's a very deep class at defensive line, and that's exciting not only for us, but for everyone.

Lynch also revealed to The Mercury News the 49ers have deemed 184 draft prospects worthy of joining their lineup. This number is fewer than the ones in past years.

The reason: Lynch told Inman making the roster cut is anything but easy.

It's going to be harder to make this team. It's going to be tougher for draft picks to make our team. We wanted that reflected in how we graded players.

Inman also notes the contract issues of several veterans won't affect the 49ers' draft plans. Several 49ers players who are still in limbo include left tackle Joe Staley, defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, and kicker Robbie Gould.

Will the 49ers trade down or will they stand pat at No. 2? The 2019 NFL Draft is must-watch TV, for sure.
