The Seattle Seahawks made quite a splash with the acquisition of New York Jets safety Jamal Adams. Despite rumors swirling about their potential interest, it seems the San Francisco 49ers and John Lynch were content with letting the saga play out.

According to Matt Maiocco NBC Sports Bay Area, general manager John Lynch says the 49ers had never inquired about trading for Adams:

“Totally inaccurate,” Lynch said. “We did not ever make a call about the player.”

Reports suggested that the 49ers were pegged as one of the frontrunners to acquire Adams alongside the Dallas Cowboys. Although his ties to Dallas had been well-documented, it appears San Francisco had no intention of competing with Seattle in a bidding war to begin with.

The 49ers may now be reconsidering after watching their fellow NFC West rivals revamp their defense with a two-time All-Pro in the secondary. After all, they are coming off a Super Bowl run in the 2019 campaign and the addition of Adams would have secured their status as favorites to remain as the reigning NFC champs. Instead, the Seahawks have now added the piece that could potential put them over the top for division supremacy.

Of course, it would have taken a major investment from the 49ers in order to make it come to fruition. It seems the prospect of parting ways with two first-round picks was too much for Lynch to consider, especially while they are clearing cap space for the looming extensions of tight end George Kittle and left tackle Trent Williams.
