San Francisco 49ers tight end Jordan Reed was supposed to miss 6-8 weeks due to a knee sprain, but it looks like he could be making a surprising return as soon as Week 8 against the Seattle Seahawks.

That's at least what 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters on Wednesday, per The Athletic's David Lombardi.Ā

Reed, who is in his first season with the 49ers after spending the first six years of his career with the Washington Football Team and then not playing at all in 2019, has caught 11 balls on the season for 85 yards and two touchdowns.

He's not the playmaker he used to be when he was in Washington, as injuries have derailed his career.

However, the 49ers are itching to get Reed back in the lineup next to George Kittle. San Francisco is currently 4-3 on the season after blowing out the New England Patriots in Week 7. After starting the season a bit slow, the 49ers have won two games in a row against the Los Angeles Rams and Patriots.

The 49ers' Week 8 matchup against the Seahawks is going to be tough since Russell Wilson and Co. are coming off their first loss of the season in Week 7 versus Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals in overtime. Wilson threw three interceptions against the Cardinals, so the 49ers have to be mindful of Wilson coming out firing in Week 8.
