The San Francisco 49ers and head coach Kyle Shanahan are headed to the Super Bowl. With the 49ers dismantling the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game, the Shanahan family has created some history in the process. Kyle and his father, longtime NFL head coach Mike Shanahan, have become the first ever father and son combination to be head coaches in a Super Bowl.

However, this is not the first father and son tandem to coach in the Super Bowl in any capacity or role. Don Shula coached in six Super Bowls with his son Mike serving as an offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50 back in February of 2016.

With Kyle Shanahan reaching the NFL's world title game by leading his team over the Packers in just his third season as a head coach at the professional level, it should be noted that his father previously accomplished such a feat by leading the Denver Broncos to a pair of titles at the end of the 1990s.

With Kyle Shanahan sporting a well-rounded attack on both sides of the football, his father Mike notably had Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway leading the way for him during his Super Bowl years as an NFL head coach.

Kyle Shanahan has actually teamed up with another former member of the Broncos franchise, former NFL safety John Lynch, who now serves as the general manager of the 49ers. The tandem of up-and-comers in their respective roles has turned around the franchise in just a few years. The 49ers will get ready to take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV.

Before the 49ers and Kyle Shanahan defeated the Packers, the Chiefs defeated the Tennessee Titans at Arrowhead Stadium to clinch their spot in this year's Super Bowl.

Kyle Shanahan and Mike Shanahan will form one of the central plot points in Super Bowl LIV.
