Since the San Francisco 49ers acquired quarterback Jimmy Garopollo from the New England Patriots just before the NFL trade deadline, there has yet to be any clarity reached on the situation.

It appears that this will continue to be the case heading into Week 11 as 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that there is no current plan in place to ease Garopollo into the fold as the eventual starting quarterback, according to Scott Ostler of the San Francisco Chronicle.

“That’s not my plan,” Shanahan said. “I don’t have a plan yet. There’s no way anything you guys hear reported could be accurate, because I just told you guys our plan.”

It has become quite a puzzling ordeal as there was the assumption that the 49ers would at some point start Garopollo, who they landed in exchange for a 2018 second-round draft pick. Instead, there has remained much uncertainty as to when or if the 26-year-old will see the field this season.

What makes this matter more intriguing is that Garopollo is set to become a free agent after this season, making the decision to hold off playing him that much more head scratching. For the 49ers brass to see if he can be the quarterback of the future, they will need to at some point play him in a game.

That said, Shanahan sounds more than comfortable with the plan to continue to roll with rookie C.J. Beathard as the starter, notably after the team earned their first win of the season on Sunday night against the New York Giants.
