Current San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan previously served as an assistant coach for the Washington Redskins, a team that was once led by his father, Mike Shanahan. With Shanahan's 49ers defeating the Redskins by the score of 9-0 on the road in Washington in Week 7, the San Francisco head coach notably dedicated the victory to his father, Mike.

Not only that, but Shanahan gifted the game ball to his father as their departure from our nation's capital wasn't the smoothest. As one can imagine, such a decision drew tons of attention as Shanahan's 49ers remained undefeated with the team's latest victory.

“That was something I planned on doing for a while,” Shanahan told reporters on Monday. “I just, the reason I told the guys is because I was just very appreciative of them. Those conditions and stuff, you can use it as an excuse, but since we won I can at least bring it up that it is tough to go out there. … It had a lot of excuses to not go out there and play as hard as they did, but the way they played, I was just very appreciative of that. The effort that they gave allowed me to do something that I’ve wanted to do for a while.”

Thanks to the 49ers' win shutout win over the Redskins, San Francisco is now one of just two undefeated franchises left alongside the heralded New England Patriots in the AFC.

“It was actually just text because I had to get on the plane and I don’t like talking in front of other people,” Shanahan added. “So I just sent a text and it was good. . . . I didn’t have to talk to him to know that he was excited, he didn’t have to talk to me to know I was excited. We knew it would feel good if we could get that done.”

Shanahan and his 49ers will now move on from all of the commotion surrounding San Francisco's win over the Redskins en route to taking on the Carolina Panthers in Week 8.
