Nick Mullens and the San Francisco 49ers were unable to pull out a close win against the New York Giants on Monday Night Football. Disappointingly, the 49ers saw Eli Manning drive the Giants down for a game-winning touchdown in the final minute of the game. Despite the loss, Mullens is not going to lose his job as the starter for San Francisco.

San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan proclaimed that Mullens would remain the team's starting quarterback until he says otherwise in a press conference shared by the 49ers' official Twitter account.

Mullens has started two games for San Francisco and has played solid football. He performed much better in his debut but was not awful against the Giants outside of a couple of bad decisions that resulted in turnovers.

Throughout his first two games of his career with the 49ers, Mullens has completed 70.5 percent of his pass attempts for 512 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions. Those numbers aren't bad for a rookie quarterback who has been forced into the starting lineup the way he has been.

At just 23 years old, there are quite a few people that see significant potential for Mullens. People in the 49ers' front office are undoubtedly high on him. Unfortunately for Mullens, his long-term future as a starter in San Francisco has already been decided by the presence of Jimmy Garoppolo, who tore his ACL earlier this season but will be back as the starter in 2019.

Next up for San Francisco is a matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road. San Francisco is currently 2-8 on the season, which should result in a top-five draft pick. Tampa Bay holds a 3-6 record this season.

All of that being said, Nick Mullens will be under center once again for the 49ers, and it will be entertaining to see how he performs in a hostile environment against the Buccaneers.
