The San Francisco 49ers have had a rather rough start to their season due to all of the injuries. Key defensive players such as Nick Bosa, Solomon Thomas and Ziggy Ansah are all done for the season, and Dee Ford is out indefinitely with a back injury. Furthermore, cornerbacks Richard Sherman, Emmanuel Moseley and Ahkello Witherspoon are all hurting.

Several other defensive players played through injuries in the 49ers' loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night. Despite the loss, head coach Kyle Shanahan could only applaud the efforts shown by cornerbacks K'Waun Williams and Dontae Johnson:

“I can’t tell you how much respect I have for K’Waun,” Shanahan said, via Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area. “The fact that he’s been out there every week for us. The fact that when he was getting hurt throughout the game he kept trying come in because he knew how down we were.

“Dontae Johnson, he hurt his groin during the game but we didn’t have enough guys up, so he came back in the game just tying to battle through it. That was tough for him towards the end, especially giving up that go route.”

Williams and Johnson both tallied two tackles apiece in the loss. Despite the valiant effort given by the shorthanded 49ers, the Eagles proved to be too much thanks to a 14-point fourth quarter.

Williams will likely be out a few weeks due to a rare ACL sprain and is a candidate for a short-term placement on the injured reserve list, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

In other news, the 49ers will potentially get Sherman back on the gridiron soon. Jason Verrett hurt his hand on Sunday, but he should be good to go.

The team will aim to improve and grab their third win of the season in their Week 5 matchup against the struggling Miami Dolphins.
