The San Francisco 49ers defense pitched another incredible performance on Sunday, holding the explosive Los Angeles Rams to just seven points in a 13-point win.

Of course, the Rams were without running back Todd Gurley, but the 49ers' defensive effort was still impressive nonetheless.

After the game, San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan said he feels that his defense his just getting started:

“I’m very happy with how we played,” Shanahan said in his postgame press conference, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. “We’re 5-0, which is a great thing, but we’re not playing our best ball. We can do a lot of things better than that. It seemed like our defense played at an extremely high level, obviously minus the first drive. We can continue to get better on offense. We can continue to get better on special teams. I also think our defense is just getting started, too.”

The Niners rank second in the NFL in yards allowed after six weeks, and they are also surrendering just 12.8 points per game, which is No. 2 in the league.

Over the last two games, the 49ers have allowed a combined 10 points, as they held the Cleveland Browns to three points in a blowout victory last Monday.

On the season overall, San Francisco has given up 20 points in a single game just once, which came back in Week 3 when it defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers by a score of 24-20.

The Niners will get a great opportunity to improve to 6-0 next week when they head on the road to take on the lowly Washington Redskins.
