The San Francisco 49ers are suddenly in the mix to land one of the top quarterbacks in the 2021 NFL Draft after they traded up to get the third overall pick. One prospect that is being linked to the team is Alabama's Mac Jones who lauded the 49ers' offense which also utilizes a drop-back passing game similar to the Crimson Tide, per Matt Barrows.

Jones previously finished his junior year in the collegiate ranks as he amassed 4,500 passing yards on 311 completions to go with 41 touchdowns in 13 appearances. He successfully led Alabama to win the 2021 Rose Bowl over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the 2021 CFP National Championship game over the Ohio State Buckeyes.

The 49ers continue to have a good shot at landing the Florida native with the third overall pick if they insist that he is their quarterback of the future. The Jacksonville Jaguars are looking set to select the presumptive top overall pick in Clemson's Trevor Lawrence.

Meanwhile, the New York Jets who currently own the No. 2 pick, are still not firm on their decision. They could possibly select a new quarterback in BYU's Mac Jones or Ohio State's Justin Fields. Jets head coach Robert Saleh and his men might also look for promising talents in the other positions to fill in their roster as well.

As things stand today, the 49ers' decision to trade up and get one of the top picks in the draft is already foretelling that they are looking to move on from their QB1 in Jimmy Garoppolo who had an injury-riddled campaign in 2020.

The Niners, led by head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch, will be traveling to Tuscaloosa to watch Jones showcase his playmaking abilities in Alabama's second Pro Day on Tuesday. The kind of show that he will put on in front of the team will certainly determine his fate in the league and could potentially alter the dynamic of the entire draft come late April.
