Current San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Marquise Goodwin is certainly one of the most athletic players in the league today while the prolific pass catcher appears primed to take his talents to yet another platform come 2020. Upon taking to Twitter on Monday afternoon, Goodwin announced that he plans to make a serious attempt at qualifying for the 2020 Olympics as a long jumper.

However, this hardly comes as a major surprise as Goodwin previously told NBC Sports Bay Area that he would be in his “jumping prime” if he ultimately chose to make a bid for the 2020 Olympics.

“I still have a lot left in the tank,” Goodwin told NBC Sports Bay Area back in May 2017. “I always wonder what I could do if I put some more time into it, but football is my priority.”

Back in 2016, Goodwin initially pursued reaching the Olympics, thanks to receiving the blessing of former Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan and the rest of the AFC East franchise. Goodwin was notably allowed to miss the team's mandatory June minicamp before eventually joining the Bills ahead of training camp.

Looking ahead to the 2020 Olympics, Goodwin is under contract with the 49ers through the 2021 campaign. If he were to advance all the way to the 2020 Olympics, Goodwin would more than likely be forced to miss the entire NFL offseason program in addition to the first few weeks of training camp.

It is also worth noting that the 2020 Olympics are scheduled to take place from July 24th to August 9th, 2020.
