San Francisco 49ers running back Matt Brieda officially signed his one-year tender to return to the Bay Area in 2020.

The 49ers keep their backfield intact after ranking second in the NFL in rushing yards per game, with Breida rejoining Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman.

Breida broke out as the starter in 2018 season, rushing for 814 yards in 14 games and averaging 5.3 yards per carry. He also hauled in 27 receptions for 261 yards.

However, Breida faced an uphill battle when the Niners signed Coleman last offseason, as it seemed the Niners would go with a committee look. Still, Breida still had some bursts in 2019.

The Georgia Southern alum rushed for 623 yards and averaged 5.1 yards per carry in 13 games. Unfortunately, Breida was also hampered by injuries and made just five starts for the Niners.

Coleman would succumb to injuries towards the end of the year as well, paving the way for Mostert to be the unsung hero of San Francisco's Super Bowl run.

Mostert had a big 2019, leading the Niners with 772 rushing yards in 16 games while also averaging 5.6 yards per carry. He also led the Niners with 10 total touchdowns. But Mostert would really make a name for himself in the playoffs.

The journeyman rushed for 220 yards and four touchdowns in the NFC Championship Game before also scoring in the Super Bowl.

Mostert saw 62 percent of the offensive snaps that game, and he has earned the right to more usage in 2020, but Breida still has plenty of potential as part of San Francisco's three-headed monster.

Breida is still just 25, and his breakaway speed makes him a playmaker in the Niners' backfield. He should be a vital part of the running game in 2020 if he can stay healthy.
