The San Francisco 49ers are set to hire former NFL wide receiver Miles Austin as an offensive quality control coach, according to Eric Branch of The San Francisco Chronicle.

Austin played 10 seasons in the NFL, with the bulk of his career coming with the Dallas Cowboys.

The undrafted wide receiver out of Monmouth University originally specialized as a kick returner during his first three NFL seasons, making occasional cameos in the Cowboys' passing game.

However, in 2009, Austin showed he can do more than just return kicks, hauling in 81 receptions for 1,320 yards and 11 touchdowns en route to his first Pro Bowl appearance.

Prior to that season, Austin had caught just 18 passes total over his first three years in the league.

Then, in 2010, the wide out showed that his 2009 campaign was no fluke, as he caught 69 passes for 1,041 yards and seven scores, earning yet another trip to Honolulu.

From that point on, however, Austin was begin to trend downward.

In 2011, the 34-year-old was limited to just 10 games due to a nagging hamstring injury, and he ended up snaring just 43 balls for 579 yards while reaching the end zone seven times.

He made a bit of a comeback in 2012, registering 66 catches for 943 yards and six touchdowns, but that was the last truly productive season Austin had.

Austin spent one more year with Dallas in 2013 before making his way to the Cleveland Browns for one season. He then finished out his career with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2014, where he caught just 13 passes for 224 yards and a touchdown.
