The San Francisco 49ers experienced a rough day at practice with injuries on Wednesday. San Francisco saw two of their potential key players in defensive end Nick Bosa, and cornerback Jason Verrett forced to leave early.

Not much information was revealed about their injuries at the time. According to Rob Lowder of SB Nation, both Bosa and Verrett will have MRIs on their ankles:

DL Nick Bosa and CB Jason Verrett are both undergoing MRIs for ankle injuries, per the 49ers.

Although defensive coordinator Robert Saleh has indicated that the injuries do not appear to be too serious, this was hardly an ideal way to enter the first week of the preseason. Bosa and Verrett are not the only notable names to be hobbled after wide receiver Marquis Goodwin was also sidelined by an apparent ankle injury.

Unfortunately, the 49ers find themselves in familiar territory when it comes to such injuries. Regardless of the diagnosis, it is safe to say that they will be taking a cautious approach with their players moving forward.

Bosa's potential absence would deal a crushing blow to their pass rush after he was taken with the second overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft to fix the looming problem. San Francisco has high hopes that he can help turn things around. However, he will need to dispel any looming concerns about his durability.

Meanwhile, Verrett's track record with injuries leaves much to be desired after playing in just five games since 2016. Despite his optimism about a potential resurgence in the 2019 NFL season, it remains to be seen whether or not he will be healthy enough to see it through.
