The San Francisco 49ers finally got some bit of good news on quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, as the gunslinger won't require season-ending surgery on his ankle sprain.

While it's still unclear if Garoppolo will play again this season, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke for all of San Francisco on Friday when he shared that he's relieved Jimmy G won't be going under the knife again.

“Good news from the doctors that none of them are recommending surgery right now,” Shanahan said, via NBC Sports Bay Area.

“So we are not going do anything for this four-to-six weeks. Rest it, and then we will re-evaluate and hopefully, it heals up the way the doctors are anticipating and he will be good to go then, and not need surgery.”

The 49ers got blown out by the Green Bay Packers in Week 9 without Jimmy Garoppolo. The team is now 4-5 on the season and in last place in the NFC West standings.

Barring a miracle, it appears the 49ers are going to miss the playoffs this season after making it all the way to the Super Bowl last year. The loser of the Super Bowl usually struggles in the following campaign, and the 49ers haven't been able to reverse that curse in 2020.

Garoppolo has thrown seven touchdowns and five interceptions this season, all while completing 67.1 percent of his passes. If he doesn't play again in 2020, the 49ers will continue to start Nick Mullens at quarterback.
