San Francisco 49ers defensive end Solomon Thomas assured fans both he and Nick Bosa would be ready to go for the start of the 2021 season.

Thomas told Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area he and Bosa could probably be ready for organized team activities (OTAs) sometime in the spring if necessary. He suggested both players are hungry to get back to work:

“Oh, definitely, I have no doubt in my mind,” Thomas said to Maiocco. “There’s no reason to have us back for OTAs. But if you wanted us back for OTAs, I believe both of us are at a place where we could get back for then. We’re athletes, we’re competitors, we want to be back as soon as possible.”

The 49ers missed the playoffs in 2020 one year after reaching the Super Bowl, mostly because the roster was decimated by injuries.

Both Bosa and Thomas suffered torn ACLs in the second game of the season. In fact, Thomas went down one play after Bosa. Dee Ford played in just one game, and cornerback Richard Sherman suited up five times.

Injuries impacted the offensive unit, as well. Jimmy Garoppolo made six starts due to ankle issues. Running back Raheem Mostert missed eight games due to a myriad of injuries, and All-Pro tight end George Kittle also missed eight contests. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel played in just seven games.

The 49ers are primed to return to contention in 2021, pending health. Thomas believes both he and Bosa will be ready to go in plenty of time, which is a good sign for the team's ability to get back to full strength.
