San Francisco 49ers quarterback Nick Mullens shined in Thursday Night Football’s matchup with the Oakland Raiders. Called on by the 49ers to start in lieu of C.J. Beathard, the relatively unknown Mullens quickly dispelled any qualms about his capabilities by having quite a night in Santa Clara.

In fact, in his very first appearance in an NFL regular season game, Mullens has already managed to match the total passing touchdown output of the Buffalo Bills so far this season. That’s not a typo. Mullens really has three touchdown passes in the game – exactly the total of the what Bills quarterbacks through the first eight weeks of the 2018 campaign, as noted by JJ Zachariason of the Late-Round Podcast.

It’s just another stat that shows how inept the Bills’ offense is this year. Rookie quarterback Josh Allen accounts for two of Buffalo’s touchdowns, while Nathan Peterman has one. The two signal-callers have nine interceptions between themselves. Meanwhile, Derek Anderson, a recent addition to the Bills, has zero touchdown passes but has already racked up four interceptions in only two games in Buffalo threads.

Mullens finished the Raiders game with 262 passing yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions on 16-of-22 completions.

With how well Mullens played in his NFL debut, the 49ers could be forced to name him their starter again in Week 10’s home game against the New York Giants.
