Veteran journeyman running back Rahmeet Mostert was the star of the show, if only for one night, when he rushed for four touchdowns in the 2020 NFC Championship game against the Green Bay Packers, positioning his San Francisco 49ers to a Super Bowl berth.

Mostert, 28, credited his success to 71-year-old Robert “Bobby” Turner Jr., an impact-making offensive assistant for the 49ers when asked recently on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

Per Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area:

“Just having him in the building just gives you that extra boost of confidence … [He’s] a guy in my eyes should be in the Hall of Fame, just because of the stature he’s brought to this game at the running back position.

“His mindset is, ‘Hey, I’m the best running backs coach this game has ever seen,’ and for him to have that mindset, he wants his players to feel like they’re the best running back that’s ever stepped on the field, as well.”

Mostert continued:

“[Turner] really treats us like we’re his own family … He tells us all the time, once we’re in that huddle, it’s all love and respect and he loves us all. It’s a great feeling to be in his huddle.”

Turner joined the 49ers as the running backs coach in 2017, the same time as head coach Kyle Shanahan, who's nearly half Turner's age, following stints with the Denver Broncos, Washington Redskins and Atlanta Falcons. Turner has been an integral force in producing great rushing seasons from such backs as Alfred Morris, Carlos Hyde and Matt Breida.

With Breida traded to the Miami Dolphins in April, Mostert, a former undrafted player out of Purdue, is expected to find more carries during the 2020 season, something Turner is sure to shower with attention and guidance.
