Will San Francisco 49ers running back Raheem Mostert miss any time due to his injury he suffered Sunday?

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter the answer is yes.

49ers’ RB Raheem Mostert is not expected to play Sunday vs. the Giants due to his sprained MCL.

Mostert suffered what is reported as a a mild MCL sprain, which mean he should not be forced to miss too much time, but the injury is apparently bad enough that he will miss at least one week. Mostert is scheduled to get an MRI to determine the extent of the injury, which may impact the timetable for his return.

Mostert is one of a number of 49ers who were injured during their Week 2 win over the New York Jets. Most notably is quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and defensive stalwart Nick Bosa. The team also lost their other running back, Tevin Coleman. Head coach Kyle Shanahan will have his hands full with all of these injuries, still trying to focus on getting back to the Super Bowl after losing in the big game to the Kansas City Chiefs last season. Talking after the game, Shanahan focused on his mixed emotions following the win.

“Some key players with some bad injuries, which makes it always a little bit harder,” Shanahan said. “I thought it was a real good game by the team. But you’ve got a little bit of mixed emotions when you lose some guys like that.”

The 49ers were the hardest hit of a very poor week for the NFL on the injury front. The lack of a full training camp and preseason has hurt the players on the field and the NFL will have to figure out how to limit the injuries moving forward.
