The San Francisco 49ers improved to an NFC-best 7-0 with their 51-13 beatdown of the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, but ESPN analyst and former head coach Rex Ryan doesn't just think the 49ers are the best team in their conference; he thinks they are the best team in the NFL.

Of course, being a defensive guy, Ryan is going to have a lot of love for the 49ers and their dominant defense, but calling them the best team in the league might be a stretch right now.

As terrific as San Francisco has been, it still has a rather shaky quarterback situation, as Jimmy Garoppolo has not been too impressive this season. Its offense as a whole also lacks top-end talent, and let's not forget that his team is very inexperienced.

Regardless, it's hard not to marvel at what the Niners have been able to do this season.

While many felt that they would be improved from last year, I don't even think the most diehard 49ers fan expected this, as San Francisco has been genuinely dominant through its first seven games.

Now, the argument can be made that the Niners have played a relatively soft schedule, as five of their seven wins have come against sub-.500 ballclubs, but you can only play who is on your slate, and the 49ers have certainly not had any letdowns.

San Francisco currently owns a two-game lead in the loss column over the Seattle Seahawks for first place in the NFC West and will take on the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday night.
