San Francisco 49ers star Richard Sherman has been on injured reserve since Week 2 with a strained calf, but he could be back in the lineup soon.

According to David Lombardi of The Athletic, Sherman is “eyeing a return for the Nov. 29 game” against the Los Angeles Rams as a “worst-case scenario.”

In a message to The Athletic, Richard Sherman said that he’s working hard to potentially return this weekend against the Saints, but he added that he’s eyeing a return for the Nov. 29 game against the Rams as a worst-case scenario. The 49ers have a bye after the New Orleans game and before heading to Los Angeles.

Sherman can practice with the 49ers for three weeks before the team must make a decision on whether or not to activate him. San Francisco, after losing to the Green Bay Packers in Week 9, is 4-5 on the season. They are in last place in the NFC West standings and will likely miss the playoffs this season after playing in the Super Bowl last campaign.

The 49ers have been bitten by the injury bug this season. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and tight end George Kittle could miss the rest of the season after getting hurt in Week 8 against the Seattle Seahawks, while defensive end Nick Bosa has been out since September after tearing his ACL.

Some might argue that Sherman should just play it safe and sit out the season since the 49ers have a losing record. It's going to be interesting to see if the Pro Bowler does end up doing that or fights his way back onto the field.
