The NFL has been discussing ways to possibly extend the regular season and the NFLPA is holding a meeting on Thursday to discuss the matter. Richard Sherman of the San Francisco 49ers called out the ‘hypocrisy' of the NFL for wanting to add more games.

“I think it’s the owners using the media in the way owners use media to try to control the rhetoric,” 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman, a member of the NFLPA Executive Committee, told reporters on Wednesday. “And I don’t think it’s something that players are interested in, honestly, and if that’s the point they’re negotiating on I think these negotiations are going to go on a lot longer than anticipated. Because it’s odd to me, and it’s always odd, when you hear player safety is their biggest concern . . . but it seems like player safety has a price tag.

On Thursday, the NFLPA meeting is being held to speak about the prospects of a 17-game season. Up to this point, the NFL has likened to the idea of 17 games. On the other hand, the NFLPA is trying to find a solution that benefits the players.

Sherman, who is a member of the NFLPA, believes that talks are still far apart in terms of a lengthened regular season. In recent seasons, the NFL has preached player safety as a main focus of theirs. However, adding another game to the regular season isn't advantageous for the players and their health.

Of course, the NFL is going to have to come up with a way to convince the NFLPA to accept their conditions. Like Sherman alluded to, there's a price tag on the player's safety and neither side is close on a number.
