Since joining the San Francisco 49ers prior to the start of the free agency period, there has been much chatter surrounding Richard Sherman's health after coming off a torn Achilles tendon last November. His continued recovery over the last few months has been encouraging for his availability in 2018.

Over the last few weeks, Sherman has been steadfast about his recovery with eyes toward being ready to take the field at some point during the offseason. According to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk, the 29-year-old voiced that he is confident he will be back on the field at some point between May or June.

“That timeline will be fine,” the new 49ers cornerback said in a press conference, via a live feed posted by the team. “I think people like to — with the Achilles or any injury — compare people. ‘This guy came back like this; this guy’s coming back like that.’ There are some people who are cut from a different cloth and built from different things, and I think I’m one of those people. I look forward to showing people you can come back better from things. I know AP [Adrian Peterson] did it, but that was a knee. But I look forward to coming back better than ever. I have a lot of things to show a few people.”

Sherman is dealing with an injury that typically takes between nine months to a year to fully heal. This has the potential to change the course of his career if not handled properly, which makes it vital that he is fully healed before going forward with on-field activity.

The fact that he has become quite fixated on returning at some point in June shows that he is progressing well despite a minor surgery to remove bone spurs from his foot several weeks ago. If he doesn't experience any setbacks, there is no reason to believe that he won't reach that time frame.

Through his first seven years in the league with the Seattle Seahawks, Sherman established himself as one of the premier cornerbacks in the league behind four Pro Bowl selections, three First-Team All-Pro nods, and a Second-Team All-Pro selection. Since the 2011 season, he ranks first in interceptions (32), passes defended (99), completion percentage allowed (47.4), and passer rating allowed (50.9).
