There is a newfound sense of optimism surrounding the San Francisco 49ers heading into the 2018 NFL season. It appears the team's two biggest stars in quarterback Jimmy Garappolo and cornerback Richard Sherman have already gotten acquainted with each other.

As the leaders on both sides on the ball, it is on them to do what they can to help improve the whole team. Sherman did just that by offering a piece of advice for Garappolo, via Chris Biderman of the Niners Wire:

“When he takes his hand off the ball, you got to be ready to break,” Sherman said after watching Garoppolo closely throughout the offseason program.

“If he takes his hand of the ball, and doesn’t throw it, I think he’ll throw guys off,” said Sherman, who noted Garoppolo had one of the league’s quickest releases, though it’s a notch below Packers star Aaron Rodgers.

Sherman's revelation is indicative of what a player of his caliber brings to the table. His ability to pick up on subtle cues from the quarterback is part of the reason he is considered the greatest cornerback of his generation.

Needless to say, Garappolo should do what he can to heed Sherman's advice moving forward.

He is coming off a stellar finish to the 2017 campaign. Garappolo's development is the main reason why people seem to be so high on a turnaround from San Francisco this year. However, he will no longer be taking any team by surprise. Opposing defenses have had adequate time to study his game at this point.

That said, it will be interesting to see if Garappolo is able to adjust his game moving forward as well.
