The controversy of the preseason is over the NFL's new helmet rule that no one seems to understand how exactly it will be called and others wonder how some of the penalties that have been called were supposed to be avoided. There has been a lot of backlash especially from defensive players about the new rule and one of the most vocal has been Richard Sherman of the San Francisco 49ers.

Sherman has never been afraid to speak his mind and it wasn't any different on Sunday night when he went on a Twitter rant about the new rule.

The new rule is supposed to make the NFL safer with players not leading with their helmet but there is no gray area and some of the penalties that have been called look like good tackling.

“There is no ‘make adjustment‘ to the way you tackle,” Sherman said on Twitter. “Even in a perfect form tackle the body is led by the head. The rule is idiotic and should be dismissed immediately. When you watch rugby players tackle they are still lead by their head. Will be flag football soon.”

There are a couple of things before the regular season starts that could happen to change this and fix this issue that the league is going to run into. The NFL can change the rule to make it more clear on what exactly will be a penalty or the league can call it less during the regular season. Sometimes the NFL tries to make a point during the preseason by flagging it a ton and then backing off of it during the regular season.
