The San Francisco 49ers have already endured multiple injuries this offseason, and they've added another player to the list. According to Alex Tran of 49ers Noir, San Francisco defensive back D.J. Reed suffered a torn pectoral recently.

Reed was a fifth-round pick by the 49ers in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Kansas State. For the most part, in his first two seasons with San Francisco, he's been a special teams contributor. However, the third-year defensive back was expected to compete for an expanded role in the defense in 2020.

Seeing that Reed's expected recovery is six to nine months, he is likely going to miss the entire 2020 season. Before sustaining the injury, Reed had totaled 54 combined tackles, two pass breakups, and two forced fumbles with the 49ers.

While Reed is on the mend, San Francisco boasts a somewhat deep group in the secondary. At cornerback, the 49ers deploy Richard Sherman, Ahkello Witherspoon, K'Waun Williams, and Jason Verrett. On the other hand, they have Jaquiski Tartt and Jimmie Ward manning their two safety spots.

Unfortunately for the 49ers, Reed isn't the only player to endure an injury during workouts this offseason. Besides Reed, both Deebo Samuel and Richie James sustained injuries while preparing for the upcoming season. Samuel is expected to return by Week 1, and James could have a chance to return at some point in 2020.

With training camps expected to take place later this month, the 49ers are hoping to enter camp as healthy as possible. But with Reed confirming he tore his pectoral muscle, San Francisco will need their secondary depth to pay dividends for them.
