As soon as the blockbuster Odell Beckham Jr. trade happened, we immediately got news of another potential huge trade. The San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs are “deep in talks” on a trade that would send pass-rusher Dee Ford from the Chiefs to the 49ers, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

“Things have escalated and this could get done by the end of the night. Ford needs to work out a new contract with SF, which is a big piece of this.”

Rapoport went on to tweet that the trade is “essentially agreed to.”

While there are still some things to work out, it sounds like this is happening. Ford blossomed into a bonafide star this past year, but the Chiefs don't want to pay him.

Kansas City put the franchise-tag on Ford, but immediately began shopping him in trade talks. They recently released fellow outside linebacker Justin Houston, so Kansas City's crop of pass-rushers will look a lot different next year. San Francisco is desperate for help getting after the quarterback off the edge, so their interest isn't surprising.

There's no word on any compensation yet, but given the fact that Ford is only 27 and still in his prime, the package will be significant. Although Ford had a great season this past year and made the Pro Bowl, his 2018 campaign will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. Ford jumped offsides late in the fourth quarter of the AFC Championship Game, which negated a Tom Brady interception and cost the Chiefs a trip to the Super Bowl.

The former first-round pick was dominant last year, and racked up 13 sacks. The 49ers have been aggressive and are building something exciting, but had very little established talent on their defensive front outside of DeForest Buckner. Assuming everything gets worked out, Ford will be a massive acquisition for them.
