The San Francisco 49ers are working on getting a deal done to keep kicker Robbie Gould with the team for the near future. Gould went 33-for-34 on field goal attempts this past season and was clearly a very significant and consistent contributor on offense. Gould also converted 27-0f-29 extra point conversions in 2018.

General Manager John Lynch stated his desire to keep Gould on the roster for years to come, according to The Athletic's Matt Barrows. Lynch wants to extend Gould after two seasons with the team, as Gould has been fantastic for San Francisco since joining them back in 2017.

“We’re hopeful to work things out with Robbie,” Lynch said. “He’s kicked unbelievably for us. He’s been incredibly clutch for us. And we’d like to reward him for us. … We’re talking.”

The 49ers were in desperate need of someone on offense to provide some reliability considering San Francisco didn't exactly start the season off on the right foot.

Running back Jerick McKinnon never saw a snap in the regular season as his season ended in preseason after suffering a knee injury in practice. Unfortunately the injury was non-contact, which is never a good sign for a player. Next, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a season-ending injury in which he tore his ACL.

It's clear after all of the adversity, Gould was a bright spot for the 49ers with his fantastic ability to put points on the board for the 49ers throughout the season. As we saw in the playoffs this year, having a reliable kicker is often the difference between winning and losing close games.
