Former New York Giants interior offensive lineman Weston Richburg could become a key piece of an up-and-coming and very talented San Francisco 49ers team in 2019-20. Signing with the NFC West franchise in March 2018 by way of a five-year free agent contract, Richburg previously spent his entire NFL playing career as a member of the aforementioned Giants.

“I’m anxious to see how he plays this season. I thought Weston was playing at a high level before he got hurt,” 49ers offensive line coach John Benton, via The Athletic. “And it was actually the same game against [the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4] that McGlinchey got hurt and slowed a bit, that Weston also got hurt.”

“I was really proud of Weston, how he sucked it up and played for the team the whole year, but you could tell there was more in the tank there. Particularly from the run game standpoint, the center is what makes it go for us. With the skills he showed before he got hurt, you saw why we brought him here. We can really benefit from a healthy Weston Richburg.”

Richburg was originally selected by the Giants in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft out of Colorado State. The 27-year-old center has started 65 of his 66 appearances atop the highest level while his 6'4″ and 290-pound frame allows him to overpower his opponents, especially when it comes to the running game. As a result, 49ers running backs and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo could find some major success in 2019.
