The San Francisco 49ers have a big day ahead of them. Later tonight, the 49ers will have to decide what to do with the second overall pick. But they also might have other big decisions they need to make. Ahead of the draft, the team is apparently shopping Solomon Thomas, according to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.

Thomas was the third overall pick just two years ago, so this is a pretty big development. The 49ers have been heavily linked to defensive linemen like Ohio State's Nick Bosa and Alabama's Quinnen Williams with the second pick, so it's not too surprising that they're looking to move Thomas.

Thomas came into the league as a very highly regarded prospect out of Stanford, but he hasn't lived up to his potential. There's been a lot of concern about his fit, and many believe the 49ers are playing him out of position. San Francisco played him mostly outside last season when he needs to be playing inside, they argue.

In 16 games and 13 starts last season, Thomas had just one sack and 31 tackles. He played around 60 percent of the defensive snaps, and hasn't been anything like what the 49ers envisioned. Two drafts ago, the 49ers held the second pick. They managed to trade down with the Bears, who wanted Mitchell Trubisky, and still get Thomas a pick later, who was their guy.

If they do end up trading Thomas, it'll be very interesting to see what they get for him. He clearly has a lot of talent and potential, but he's also making a lot of money and the next two years on his deal are fully guaranteed. At this point it'd be surprising if they were able to get anything other than a middle round pick.
