After a tumultuous run this season, the Odell Beckham Jr. era with the Cleveland Browns has now come to an end.

On Friday, the Browns announced that Beckham will be released, which came after the team failed to find a suitor for him ahead of Tuesday's NFL trade deadline. The veteran wide receiver is now set to be subjected to the NFL's waiver wire. He can not be claimed by any team until Monday.

Numerous teams have been linked with the possibility of either claiming Beckham on waivers or outright signing him if he becomes a free agent, including the San Francisco 49ers. Due to their 3-4 record on the season, the 49ers currently sit at 12th on the waiver list.

For now, 49ers general manager John Lynch is not ruling out the possibility of the team making a grand push to sign Beckham in the coming week, which he spoke about on Friday.

“What I can assure you is we’re always trying to make ourselves better and if we have an opportunity to do so, we will,” Lynch said. “I’ll leave it at that for strategic reasons.”

The 49ers have been linked with Beckham for years now. Most notably, San Francisco was reportedly interested in acquiring him from the New York Giants after the 2018 season. But instead, it was Cleveland that made the move to haul him in, as it sent two draft picks and two players to the Giants in the deal.

The 49ers sure could use another go-to wideout for their offensive attack, especially as wide receiver Deebo Samuel (44) is currently the only talent on the team with at least 20 receptions recorded so far this season.

The 49ers are currently set for a Week 9 home clash with the Arizona Cardinals.
