The San Francisco 49ers have gotten off to a blazing 3-0 start to the season, but there is an interesting stat that has helped them win games. With three games being played, San Francisco leads the NFL in drives starting in plus territory (opponent's side of the field).

Leading the NFL in drives starting in plus territory goes to show the vast improvements that have been on San Francisco's defense. Altogether, the 49ers have had six drives that have begun on the other side of midfield (tied most with the Green Bay Packers).

Coming into the season, there were mixed feelings on how the 49ers would look in their third season with Kyle Shanahan as their head coach. So far, things have been fantastic with Shanahan's squad being tied with the Los Angeles Rams for the top spot in the NFC West.

Over the offseason, San Francisco traded for Dee Ford, signed Kwon Alexander, and drafted Nick Bosa in hopes to provide a boost for their defense. As a result, the 49ers are currently the second-ranked defense and have seven takeaways (tied for second-most in NFL).

Despite turning the ball over five times on Sunday, Jimmy Garoppolo and company battled back and were able to topple the Pittsburgh Steelers 24-20. They will undoubtedly need to clean up their mental errors but the 49ers have to be optimistic with how the season has begun.

The 49ers will look to continue their success of having beneficial field position in Week 5 against the Cleveland Browns.
