The San Franciso 49ers were able to get back into the win column in spectacular fashion against the New Orleans Saints. Unfortunately, they will not have Marquise Goodwin for the rest of the 2019 NFL season as they initially planned.

Marquise Goodwin has missed the last three games with knee and ankle injuries. According to ESPN's Field Yates, the 49ers have opted to place him on injured reserve:

The 49ers have placed WR Marquise Goodwin on IR, per source.

San Francisco was optimistic that they would have all of their pieces back for the final stretch of the 2019 campaign, however, it seems quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will officially have to make do with the weapons at his disposal.

Goodwin has not been much of a factor in the passing game while dealing with injuries. As a result, he will finish the season with 12 catches for 186 yards and a touchdown in nine games. While this year on the gridiron may have been a disappointment, he is hoping to redeem himself in track and field by qualifying for the 2020 Olympics in Japan.

Although the 49ers will certainly miss the explosive element he brings once the playoffs roll around, they can take solace in the fact that they have a solid contingency in place to carry this group. The trade for wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders has paid huge dividends for this offense after establishing himself as the No. 1 option for Garoppolo. Meanwhile, the emergence of wide receiver Deebo Samuel has given him another viable pass-catcher to work with.
