San Francisco 49ers legend Steve Young is the latest to heap praise on his former team following Friday's blockbuster move. After agreeing to a deal with the Miami Dolphins, the 49ers are now the proud owners of the third overall pick in the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft. Something that Young himself could not be more delighted for.

According to Young, this is exactly the type of forward-thinking that will secure the 49ers future for the long haul:

“In many ways, this trade resets the clock for the Super Bowl window for the 49ers,” Young said, via Alex Espinoza of NBC Sports. “Because now the investment in the quarterback on a rookie deal allows for all of the money to go to others and they can keep a bunch of people. and they can kind of stay in that mix. When a quarterback gets the big money, like Jimmy [Garoppolo] got, that really limits the ability to kind of get that Super Bowl momentum. You can do it. We’ve seen it before, but this kind of resets the clock, and you say for a five year window now, the 49ers should be in the mix in the Super Bowl.”

Young makes a lot of sense here. If his prediction does come to fruition then the 49ers have just pulled off one of the best deals of the offseason.

49ers Have A Ton Of Options at 3rd Overall

Trevor Lawrence is still expected to go No. 1 to the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New York Jets make their pick following that. The Jets have been linked to Zach Wilson with their second pick, but even without those two future superstars, the 49ers will still have their pick among the likes of Justin Fields, Trey Lance, and Mac Jones if they chose to select a quarterback. That's certainly not a bad set of options for San Francisco.
