The San Francisco 49ers have a lot of question marks surrounding the running back position which means that newly acquired Tevin Coleman is currently the favorite to get the most touches this upcoming season. Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports recently did a mailbag of questions with one of them being about the 49ers backfield.

Maicco points out that there a lot of questions surrounding Jerick McKinnon and if he will be the same player after his ACL injury and for that reason right now Coleman should be the lead back.

The big question with Jerick McKinnon is whether he will be the same player in his first season back from ACL surgery. It might take him a while. Therefore, Tevin Coleman is most likely to be the back who gets the most touches – both as a runner and a receiver.

Coleman is the clear favorite with the next three players in line, McKinnon, Matt Breida and Raheem Mostert, unable to participate in OTAs.

Last year Tevin Coleman filled in admirably for the Atlanta Falcons when Devonta Freeman went down with a season-ending injury. He finished with 167 rushing attempts for 800 yards and four touchdowns. He also had 32 receptions for 276 yards and five touchdowns.

He was used as more of a change of pace back early in his career but has proven he can take on a bell-cow back role. The best hope for the Falcons is that McKinnon can be healthy and that Coleman and McKinnon can be a solid one-two punch.
