San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo finds himself in familiar territory after punching his ticket to Super Bowl LIV. This time, however, he is a starter. New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has since made sure to reach out.

Garoppolo says Brady congratulated him on his success and wished him good luck in the Super Bowl, via Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk:

“Yeah, he shot me a text congratulating us on the NFC championship and wished me luck here,” Garoppolo said Monday, “so it was pretty cool.”

Garoppolo also touched on the time he spent as Brady's backup in New England.

“He was awesome,” Garoppolo said. “Everything he did, I never tried to be much of a pest and ask too many questions, but just watching him from afar how he went about his business, how he handled off-the-field things, on the field, whatever it was, he always did it the right way. So he gave me a good example when I was young.”

It is encouraging to see the tow former teammates still reaching out to each other. Unlike before, it will finally be Garoppolo's time to shine on the big stage.

Jimmy Garoppolo won two Super Bowls while serving as the backup to Tom Brady to begin his career. Although he may have watched them unfold from the sidelines, there is no question that the experience has helped pay huge dividends for his career.

Garoppolo's pedigree and time in the Patriots' system made him a highly sought-after piece for many teams looking for a potential franchise quarterback. He will now have an opportunity to solidify this notion by ending the 2019 NFL season on a high note.
