Former Washington Redskins offensive tackle Trent Williams was finally traded away from our nation's capital over the weekend en route to making his way to the Bay Area. Now a member of the defending NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers, Williams was acquired by the heralded NFC West franchise during the 2020 NFL Draft and will make an immediate impact ahead of the upcoming 2020-21 campaign.

It is also worth noting that 49ers starting left tackle Joe Staley retired just before the 2020 NFL Draft, paving the way for San Francisco to trade for Williams before it was too late. As one can imagine, Williams had more than just one suitor entering the unforgettable weekend festivities.

Williams' agent, Vincent Taylor, has since made a point to mention that the Minnesota Vikings were initially the likeliest suitor for the disgruntled Redskins blocker. However, it was still ultimately the 49ers that managed to land Williams in the end.

“For whatever reason, why their deal didn’t get consummated before the 49ers came in ultimately and obviously had the best offer for the Redskins, I’m not exactly sure,” Taylor recently said on SiriusXM NFL Radio of the Vikings' interest in Williams. “To that nature, it was more of, got down to it and the 49ers had the best offer on the table.”

With Staley notifying the 49ers early enough in the process, San Francisco may have even upgraded at the left tackle opposition as Williams was one of the best in the league only a few years ago. Due to injury concerns and his irreparable relationship with Washington, Williams did not suit up in 2019-20, his final go-round as a member of the Redskins.
