San Francisco 49ers Trent Williams has been playing in the NFL for over a decade now but he still can get surprised by his job from time to time, directly or indirectly. Take for example this time when he got the news that he's the first offensive lineman to get a 99 rating in the history of Madden NFL.

It is only fitting for Trent Williams to get such an honor, considering the way he played in the 2022 NFL season for the 49ers. Williams was a key piece of San Francisco quarterbacks' protection unit and certainly played a major role in giving Jimmy Garropolo and Trey Lance enough time to make solid throws. In fact, the Niners ranked first in the 2021 NFL season with 8.0 yards per pass. Garropolo went 8.6 yards per pass while Lance, in his rookie season in the pros, recorded 8.5. Apart from that, Williams also shined in the 49ers' ground attack, which was San Francisco offense's bread and butter. The Niners ran the ball 48.39 percent of the time and averaged 124.6 rushing yards on 29.3 rushing attempts per game, seventh and sixth overall in the NFL, respectively.

For his solid play in the trenches, Trent Williams managed to extend his streak of Pro Bowl seasons to nine, while also receiving his first career First-Team All-Pro recognition.

Having shown barely any signs of slowing down, Williams will look to continue his strong play for the 49ers, regardless if it's going to be Garropolo or Lance who'd be the starter for the team come Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season.
