Rumors have suddenly been swirling surrounding superstar quarterback Tom Brady once again. Currently a free agent, he has been linked to countless teams at this point.

And now one of those teams is picking up a little traction in the rumor mill, the San Francisco 49ers.

Could Brady actually be heading there though? Ian Rapoport of NFL Network weighed in on the subject.

So Rapoport is not saying the rumors are false. He is however pointing out a few issues with the rumors.

There is the fact that he hasn’t actually heard them say they are pursuing Brady. Basically, he’s just heard them say that, of course, theoretically they would like Brady, who wouldn’t?

The other one is the big issue though, Jimmy Garoppolo. While the quarterback was not perfect last season, he took a lot of strides in the right direction. He’s under a pretty massive contract, and helped get them to a Super Bowl last year.

So it would be weird to move away from him suddenly. Even more so, it would probably be hard to move away from him.

Even with the big strides, there are some clear holes in Garoppolo’s game. Holes that might make other teams not all that interested in taking on that massive contract. So it could be a pretty big loss for the 49ers to trade away Garoppolo for not much in return, just for a single season of Brady.

However, nothing is impossible. Rapoport does not seem to believe there is substantial evidence that this will happen. He does acknowledge that both Brady and the 49ers would have motivation to work something out though.
