As rumors continue to swirl about this upcoming class of quarterbacks and where they will go in the 2021 NFL Draft (except for Trevor Lawrence), it seems more and more likely that Kyle Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers have found their man:

Now, this isn't to say that 49ers fans are happy that Mac Jones is apparently the team's quarterback of the future over Trey Lance or Justin Fields. But, with Vegas starting to give solid odds on it along with the reports from Schefter and others, Kyle Shanahan must be blowing up one hell of a smokescreen if there isn't some truth to the reports.

This news is, it should be said, coming off of an incredible display at Mac Jones' Pro Day, which was attended by Shanahan himself. While Pro Day results should be taken with a grain of salt (Jamarcus Russell anyone?), the fact that Shanahan was at this particular one should ring some alarm bells in the heads of both bettors and opposing teams. On the flip side, with the recent move by the New York Jets to trade Sam Darnold, the possibility remains that this is Shanahan making a big wave for the Jets to take Jones instead of, say, Zach Wilson, who they've been linked to.

But for fairness' sake, let's look at the hypotheticals. Mac Jones, while not as blessed with raw talent as Fields or Lance, played in a decently complex system against NFL-caliber talent. So were his receivers, but it is reasonable to argue that outside of Lawrence, that makes him one of the most pro-ready prospects in this year's rookie quarterback class. Shanahan liked Garoppolo for his brains and his cool poise under pressure. Mac Jones is all that and a bag of chips, so while he might not be a superstar in this league, he might be just what Shanahan wants for his offense.

We will see on draft day.
